Honoring our Volunteers

May luncheon honors LAS volunteers

Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

Like many nonprofit organizations, Legal Assistance for Seniors is indebted to volunteers.

The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) is dependent on the services of highly trained volunteer counselors. We are fortunate to have between thirty-two and thirty-five highly trained HICAP counselors at any given time.

Agency resources never stretch as far as community demand. Thankfully, our legal services programs are augmented by three volunteer attorneys. We also work with area law schools to attract the volunteer services of law clerks. They provide an invaluable benefit to LAS, while we provide an excellent learning opportunity for them.

And where would we be without the selfless volunteerism of the seventeen-member LAS Board of Directors?

On May 18, 2007, staff members and volunteers met for a luncheon honoring volunteers and the spirit of volunteerism at Hs. Lordships Restaurant at the Berkeley Marina. Recognition and awards were given, and everyone enjoyed listening to Oakland attorney and LAS Board member Priscilla Camp as she discussed why people volunteer and the importance of volunteerism to organizations and the people they serve.

We appreciate our volunteers and could never thank them enough!
