2010 Post Annual Event

Nearly 200 supporters of Legal Assistance for Seniors (LAS) gathered on October 28th at Scott’s Seafood, Jack London Square to celebrate the work of LAS and recognize four remarkable individuals for their service to our senior community.

“The setting was marvelous,” said Catherine Duggan, President of the LAS Board of Directors. “The honorees so deserve this recognition. It was my privilege to present them with their awards.”
Supervisor Nate Miley received the Community Service Award for his work to improve senior services in Alameda County including housing and transportation. Wendy Peterson was honored with the Senior Service Award for her advocacy on behalf of seniors and her work with in the field of aging policy. And finally, Jeffrey Kupers and Kay Kohler, a husband and wife attorney team, were given the Legal Service Award for their dedication for the past four year’s to LAS as volunteer attorney’s representing grandparents in guardianship cases and litigating on behalf of victims of elder abuse.
Wendy Tokuda of KPIX CBS 5 TV was the Mistress of Ceremonies, pictured with Francel D'Andrea, Executive Director of LAS. Many dignitaries were in attendance including Honorable David Lee (ret.); Honorable Jennie Rhine (ret.); Honorable Jerome Smith (ret.); Honorable John Sutter (ret.); Honorable Ron Sabraw (ret.); Supervisor Gail Steele; Supervisor Scott Haggerty; Anne Warner Reitz; Prescott Cole; Suzanne Shenfil; Margaret Roisman; and Priscilla Camp.
LAS would also like to express its gratitude to Bill Phua for donating our center pieces from Oakland Flower Mart; Constellation Wines U.S. for donating the delicious Woodbridge Wines by Robert Mondavi; and finally, Scott’s Seafood Restaurant, Jack London Square for the wonderful meal and impeccable service.
